Between February 8 and February 14 the Central Institute of Hematology and Blood Transfusion received a record 1,600 donors of blood and platelets, an average of 230 donors per day.
In late January, the Institute called for blood donations because they were expecting a shortage of 10,000 units during the 7-day Lunar New Year Festival. After one week, more than 2,100 units of blood had been received, four times the number expected.
