(VOVWORLD) - 17 states and DC on Monday sued to block the Trump administration from stripping foreign students of their visas if their college moves exclusively to online classes because of the coronavirus pandemic.
US Immigration and Customs Enforcement announced last week that foreign students whose courses are entirely online will be required to leave the US.
Massachusetts Attorney General Maura Healey, whose office is leading the coalition of states suing the federal government, said the Trump administration hasn’t even attempted to justify this senseless rule, which forces schools to choose between keeping their foreign students enrolled and protecting the health and safety of their campuses.
The lawsuit, which was filed in federal court in Boston, alleges several violations of a federal law known as the Administrative Procedure Act.
