In her address, Vice President Nguyen Thi Doan highlighted the importance of the Declaration in promoting gender equality in Vietnam and highlighting women’s contributions to Vietnam’s economic growth and social progresses over the past twenty years. Doan stressed the need to review the Beijing Platform to improve gender equality in Vietnam. The Beijing Declaration and Platform for Action was adopted at the 4^th World Conference on Women in Beijing in 1995 by 189 countries envisioning a world where every woman and girl could exercise her freedom and potential. By responding to the Beijing Platform with determination and responsibility, Vietnam quickly achieved a number of MDGs including those on gender equality and empowering women.
