20,000 policemen deployed to secure Morsi trial
(VOVworld)- The Egyptian interior ministry deployed 20,000 policemen to secure the trial of ousted president Mohamed Morsi and 14 other officials of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB) on Wednesday.
Thirty armored vehicles were deployed around the Police Academy outside Cairo to counter the escalating violence targeting police and army forces. As planned, Egypt’s former head of state of Egypt was brought from Borg al-Arab prison in Alexandria to the trial location in a helicopter. Morsi and his 14 co-defendants who includes two senior leaders of the Muslim Brotherhood (MB), Mohamed El-Beltagi and Essam El-Erian, are accused of instigating the killing of demonstrators in front of the Presidential palace in December 2012. Morsi is accused of incitement to murder and if convicted he could face a life sentence or the death penalty. His first trial was held last November.
