(VOVworld) – Over 600 thousand candidates across the country attending the first phase of the university and college entrance exams this morning sat for their first subject - a 3-hour written mathematics exam.
Most exam councils in Hanoi reported close conformity to the rules. Examinees said the mathematics questions were reasonable, closely following what they learned in high school and carefully graged. A candidate for the Post and Telecommunications Institute of Technology said: "This year’s questions are as doable as last year’s, and contain some more difficult sections to select superior students. Both the candidates and the monitors were serious at the exam".
In Ho Chi Minh City, over 218 thousand candidates showed up for the exam. Following the test, many examinees and teachers said the questions were relatively difficult and that the average student could solve about half of them. Lê Nguyễn Huỳnh Phương is a candidate for Sai Gon University: "In this morning’s exam, the number of difficult questions that challenge the examinees was greater than the number requiring only basic knowledge. An average student could answer 50%-60% of the questions".
More than 7 thousand people, including 2 thousand ethnic minorities, have completed the first phase of university entrance exams in the Central Highlands.
The Ministry of Education and Training this morning sent its inspectors to exam sites in Hanoi and Ho Chi Minh city. Vice Minister of Education and Training Bùi Văn Ga said: "Direct inspection by the Ministry’s steering board and other reports indicate that the test was conducted in a proper manner. Through talks with the heads of the exam councils and direct observations, we have determined that the test strictly followed regulations set by the Ministry of Education and Training. Some candidates left the examining rooms after two-thirds of the time allowed, indicating that the majority of them could handle the test".
This afternoon, candidates take a 90-minute multiple-choice physics test.
Chemistry and English tests will take place tomorrow, the last day of the first phase of the 2012 university and college entrance exams.
