2013 Spring Economic Forum opens
(VOVworld) – The 2013 Spring Economic Forum has opened in the central coastal city of Nha Trang today/ on Friday. Speaking at the opening ceremony, Nguyen Van Giau, Chairman of the National Assembly Committee for Economic Affairs, said economic restructuring and growth model converse are key issues for the nation, which needed to be implemented over time. Over the past year, Vietnam has focused on restructuring the national economy, including restructuring investment, the financial and monetary systems, and state-owned enterprises. Giau stressed that the country’s future task was to turn economic policies into concrete actions in order to help the national economy leap ahead.
Regarding the issue of restructuring financial and monetary system, Nguyen Dinh Cung, Deputy Director of the Central Institute for Economic Management, said: “We have restructured 9 weak banks. But unifying weak banks does not necessarily create a strong bank. Merging a weak bank with a strong bank also is not very likely to create a stronger bank. I think we should further accelerate the task of dealing with bad debt in the future”.
This forum is to propose practical economic policies for the coming year. Proposals by economists will be summarized and submitted to the National Assembly at the upcoming session.
