The men's Olympic triathlon was postponed just hours before the scheduled start on Tuesday due to poor water quality in the River Seine, drawing further criticism towards the organizers.
Heavy downpours have overwhelmed the city's underground drains and sewage system, causing untreated wastewater to be released into the river.
Training sessions on July 28 and 29 were previously canceled due to concerns about the Seine's water quality.
The Organizing Committee stated that if the water quality does not meet standards, they will implement "Plan B," which may involve delaying the swimming competition by a few days or moving the venue to the Marne River, which flows through Vaires-sur-Marne, east of Paris.
