33 hostage takers killed at Pakistan police station

(VOVWORLD) - Pakistan's Defense Minister Khawaja Muhammad Asif announced Tuesday that Pakistani special forces successfully rescued all the hostages and killed all 33 hostage-takers at a police station near the Afghan border.

Speaking at the National Assembly, Asif said 10 to 15 members of the task force were wounded and two were killed during the rescue.

Several Pakistani Taliban detainees overpowered their guards at a counter-terrorism center in northwestern Pakistan last night, snatched police weapons, took hostages, and seized control of the facility.

Pakistani special forces raided the police station to conduct a hostage rescue operation after more than 40 hours of negotiations failed.
