(VOVWORLD) -The Taliban executed a murderer in Farah province this week, the first public execution since the Taliban returned to power in Afghanistan in August last year.

The execution was carried out at a stadium in the early morning, said Taliban spokesperson Zabihullah Mujahid.
Hundreds of people are said to have witnessed the execution, including high-ranking Taliban officials.
A Taliban official said the accused murderer was tried in a Taliban court and exhausted all appeals. The accused admitted to stabbing a resident of Farah and stealing his property.
