(VOVworld) – Nearly 5,000 artists participated in an art program held in Ho Chi Minh city on Thursday to mark the 40^th anniversary of southern liberation and national reunification.

The program depicted the hard but heroic struggle of Vietnamese people for national independence from 1954 to 1975. It also featured the development of Ho Chi Minh city 40 years after liberation to become a developed city. A firework display was also held to mark this occasion.

In Hanoi, a fifteen-minute firework performance took place at 6 venues. Art performances were held on outdoor stages around Hoan Kiem lake attracting thousands of locals and foreign visitors. Nguyen Thi Hong lives in Hanoi: “As a Hanoian, I feel so cheerful and happy on this occasion. I am proud of heroic tradition of Vietnamese people who bravely fought against foreign invaders for national independence. I hope younger generations will continue this patriotic tradition to defend our country”.
