(VOVWORLD) - The Ministry of Finance on Friday received donations worth 100 billion VND equivalent to 4.3 million USD to Vietnam's COVID-19 Vaccine Fund. The donations were sent from global groups of the Republic of Korea and Japan that are operating in Vietnam.

Specifically, SK Group, the second largest economic group in Korea, donated 1 million USD, AEON Vietnam Company donated 25 billion VND (over 1 million USD), and Honda Vietnam Company donated 12 billion VND (520,000 USD).
At the reception ceremony witnessed by the Ambassadors of Republic of Korea and Japan, Finance Minister Ho Duc Phoc thanked to the donors' golden hearts, saying the funding will enable the Government to soon achieve the goal of vaccinating the entire population. He praised multinational companies’ high sense of responsibility for the community, standing side by side with Vietnam in pandemic response.
The National COVID-19 Vaccine Fund received nearly 325 million USD as of Friday.
The fund’s management board has opened 21 accounts for donations made in VND and hard currencies at the State Treasury and several commercial banks.
Vietnam will need 1.1 billion USD to buy 150 million doses of COVID-19 vaccine to inoculate 75 million people in order to achieve herd immunity.
