(VOVworld)- The fourth World Conference of Speakers of Parliament commenced in New York City, on Tuesday attended by 140 parliamentary delegations from around the globe. National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung led the Vietnamese delegation.

At the plenary session, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung delivered a key note address.

In his opening speech, President of the Inter-Parliamentary Union (IPU) Saber Chowdhury said the conference demonstrates the parliaments’ active participation in mapping out the agenda of the UN in post 2015. The IPU President said he hopes the IPU and the UN will soon sign a cooperative agreement on issues relating to security and people’s lives. In their first plenary session, the delegates discussed the implementation of recommendations made at the previous conference and the parliamentary role in international relations. They also contributed opinions to issues under the theme “Democracy for Peace and Sustainable Growth: Building a world to meet people’s aspirations”.  At the second plenary session, they listened to report on parliamentary participation in the implementation of the Millennium Development Goals and their challenges. At the plenary session, National Assembly Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung delivered a key note address.
