Participants, including heroes of the People's Armed Forces, families of policy beneficiaries, Youth Union members, and residents of Ha Tinh, offered incense and flowers at the memorial stele of martyred youth volunteers and the cemetery of 10 fallen female volunteers at Dong Loc T-Junction.

Nguyen Thi Thanh Tam, a Youth Union member in Can Loc district, said: "We’re moved thinking about girls who sacrificed their youth full lives defending the motherland. Today we all gather here to offer incense in tribute to the heroes. We promise to contribute our best to developing the country".

The Dong Loc T-junction was the most important transport intersection on the legendary Truong Son-Ho Chi Minh trail, through which trucks carrying soldiers, food, arms and munitions from the north must go on their way to southern battlefields.

Every day, hundreds of people pay respect to the 10 young volunteers at the Dong Loc T-junction.

From 1965 to 1968, the US army dropped nearly 50,000 bombs and fired tens of thousands of missiles on the Dong Loc T-junction in Dong Loc commune, Can Loc district in order to cut off the transport route.

Many young volunteers worked at the site, using every minute between bombings to level bomb craters on the road.

On July 24, 1968,  a bomb fell very close to the mouth of the cave where a group of 10 female volunteers, aged from 17 to 24, were taking shelter, killing all of them.

Their sacrifice has become a symbol of Vietnamese heroism.
