(VOVworld) – Activities are held across Vietnam to pay gratitude to revolutionary contributors on the 69th War Invalids and Martyrs’ Day on July 27th.

On Wednesday, a delegation of top Vietnamese leaders laid wreaths and paid tribute to heroic martyrs at the Monument to Heroic Martyrs in Hanoi.
The leaders included Party chief Nguyen Phu Trong, Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc, National Assembly Chairwoman Nguyen Thi Kim Ngan, and Vietnam Fatherland Front President Nguyen Thien Nhan.
They then paid tribute to the late President Ho Chi Minh at his Mausoleum.
The same day, delegations from the Central Military Commission, the Ministry of Public Security, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids and Social Affairs, and the Hanoi municipal People’s Committee also laid wreaths at the Heroic Martyrs’ Monument and President Ho Chi Minh’s Mausoleum.
On Tuesday, candles were lit at Hanoi’s Martyrs Cemetery where head of Mass Mobilization Commission Truong Thi Mai and others burned incense to express their respect and gratitude to those who sacrificed their lives to the national struggle for liberation and reunification.
Le Quoc Phong, First Secretary of Ho Chi Minh Youth Union and President of Vietnam Students’ Association, launched a movement called “Following the steps of heroes”: “Youth Unions at all levels, youth members, and pioneers nationwide should continue useful and practical works depending on each person’s capacity as a token to show gratitude to heroes, martyrs, war invalids, and relatives of revolutionary contributors. Your works are the reminder of the nation’s glorious history, and the great sacrifice of our predecessors who died for our peaceful life.”

The same day candles were also lit at more than more than 2,000 cemeteries nationwide in commemoration of war martyrs. An art exchange was organized at the Truong Son National Martyr’s Cemetery, senior lieutenant-colonel and head of the organizing board Dinh Quoc Hung said: “Through this program, we want to tell the younger generation that they should remember and honor the sacrifice of the predecessors to well understand their responsibility for the national construction and protection. The event also offers an opportunity for young people to pay their tribute to the relatives of war martyrs, invalids, policy beneficiaries, and revolutionary contributors.”
Also on Tuesday, the Ministry of Labor, Invalids, and Social Affairs presented the test results to families of 99 martyrs who died in Laos' Xieng Khouang Province.
Deputy Minister Doan Mau Diep said: “We hope more and more organizations, individuals, and enterprises will continue to participate in the Party and government’s cause to pay gratitude to those who rendered great service to the nation to honor the Vietnamese tradition “Remembering the source of the water we drink”. We strongly believe that gene testing to identify martyrs and help them return home with their relatives is a practical act of paying debts of gratitude to war martyrs.”
