(VOVworld) – The Museum of the Southeastern Armed Forces on Thursday opened an exhibition reflecting the southern region’s assistance in the Dien Bien Phu campaign.

On display are 12 battle maps, 98 photos, 36 items, and many books and documents about the campaign. Visitors can gain a deep insight into the staunch fighting spirit of Dien Bien’s soldiers that led to the historic victory on May 7, 1954.

Nguyen Tuan Cuong is a visitor. "This is the second time I have seen this exhibition. I always have strong feelings when I see these photos. I’d like to express my gratitude to our ancestors who sacrificed their lives for our present day comfort. I’m proud to be a soldier and I hope the younger generation will uphold this tradition."
The People’s Army newspaper and the Vietnam Union of Cycling and Motor Sport co-hosted a press briefing on the national cycling open tour to Dien Bien Phu 2014. The race will start in Hanoi on May 1st and end in Dien Bien city on May 6th. Lieutenant-general Le Phuc Nguyen, Editor in chief of the People’s Army newspaper and Head of the organizing board, said: "The cycling tour to Dien Bien Phu aims to show our gratitude to our ancestors via sporting activities. The athletes have thoroughly prepared to achieve the best results. They will show their will and capability and reflect the spirit of the Dien Bien soldiers."
Cyclists from Bonne Chance Japan and the Malaysia National Team will also join the tour.
