At the Ministry’s Q2 regular press conference held Friday in Hanoi, Tien said that agriculture is maintaining a fairly high growth rate and affirming its role for the economy. Productivity and output of many key products increased, ensuring the supply of food and essential goods, making an important contribution to the country's GDP growth, he added.
Despite challenges, the consumption market for agricultural, forestry and fishery products is maintained and expanded. Total export value of these products in the first half of the year totaled 29.2 billion USD, up 19% over the same period last year. Meanwhile, the total import value stood at 20.92 billion USD and the sector's trade surplus was 8.28 billion USD.
Seven product groups with an export value of more than 1 billion USD are coffee, rubber, rice, vegetables, cashew nuts, shrimp, and wooden items.
The United States, China and Japan continue to be the three largest export markets for agricultural, forestry and fishery products of Vietnam.
