(VOVWORLD) -A 73-year old Vietnamese American man who had contracted the novel coronavirus (Covid-19) was finally released from hospital on Friday.
Upon his discharge, the patient extended his gratitude to the Vietnamese doctors who had provided heartfelt care and ultimately worked to save his life during the three weeks of treatment he received at the Ho Chi Minh City Hospital for Tropical Diseases.
The patient’s journey to Asia began on January 14 when he flew from San Francisco in the United States to Vietnam in order to celebrate the Lunar New Year with his relatives.
This journey involved a two-hour stopover at Wuhan Airport in China, a destination in which the man was likely to have come into contact with the Covid-19. After entering the country at Tan Son Nhat airport on January 16, he stayed at a hotel in District 3 of Ho Chi Minh City.
By January 31, the man had been admitted to hospital after displaying symptoms of coughing, tiredness, and having difficulty breathing, with his samples testing positive.
As of Friday, 15 of the 16 patients with Covid-19 in Vietnam were cured and discharged from hospital.
