(VOVworld) – On Tuesday, the Arab League pledged military support to help the internationally-recognised government of Libya fight the Islamic State.

A communiqué issued after an Arab League meeting in Cairo said that there is an urgent need for an “Arab strategy” to fight the IS in Libya. IS militants have taken control of Libya’s coastal city Sirte. The Arab League called on the UN to lift an arms embargo on the Libyan government to support its fight against the IS.
