Venerable Thich Gia Quang of
the Vietnam Buddhist Sangha’s Central Committee said: “Expressing gratitude
to ancestors and parents is one of the four most important deeds for every
Vietnamese person. Vu Lan, or Mother’s Day, which falls on the 7th full moon of
the lunar calendar, nurtures the Vietnamese tradition of remembering the source
of the water one drinks. For centuries, the Vu Lan festival has been one of the
biggest and most significant events in Vietnam.”
