In the communiqué, some ministers voiced concerns about land reclamation activity and damage to the marine environment, which has eroded trust and confidence, increased tensions, and is threatening peace, security, and stability in the region.
The conference reaffirmed the need for mutual trust and confidence, restraint from activities that might complicate or escalate current disputes, and a peaceful resolution of all disputes in accordance with the universally recognized principles of international law, including the 1982 UN Convention on the Law of the Sea (1982 UNCLOS).
