(VOVworld) – A ceremony to mark the ASEAN’s 47
th anniversary was held at the headquarters of the ASEAN Secretariat in Jakarta, Indonesia on Monday.

In his opening speech, ASEAN Secretary General Le Luong Minh reviewed the association’s profound achievements for peace, friendship, cooperation, and prosperity. Founded on August 8, 1967 with 5 members, the ASEAN now consists of 10 members and plays an important role in maintaining peace, security, stability, cooperation, and development regionally and internationally. The bloc is boosting the establishment of an ASEAN community by 2015 and heading towards post-2015 targets.
The Indonesian Foreign Minister Marty Natalegawa, on behalf of the host country, congratulated ASEAN on this occasion. He said Indonesia is confident that ASEAN will obtain its target of building an ASEAN community by 2015 which is capable of promoting its central role in the global community.
