ASEAN urged to promote its role in resolving East Sea disputes
(VOVworld)- The CASS-India Research Center of the Stratcore Group on Wednesday held a round table workshop in Singapore to discuss the escalating tension in the East Sea and its impacts on regional security. Experts, scholars, researchers in national defense, security, foreign relations and lawyers from various countries attended the workshop. They discussed the escalating tension in the East Sea including ASEAN’s role and regional security challenges. Most of the presenters expressed their grave concerns over China’s unilateral actions in sovereignty disputes with neighboring countries, especially regarding latest developments in the East Sea. They urged ASEAN and China to soon conclude an agreement on a Code of Conduct in the East Sea. They said though there remained other challenges in the East Sea including piracy, terrorism, and human trafficking, but ASEAN need to reach a consensus on efforts to ensure peace in the region.
