(VOVWORLD) -President Tran Dai Quang has urged Vietnam and Australia to step up cooperation in trade and investment, security and defense, education and training, and high-tech agriculture in line with their strategic partnership.

Mr. Quang hosted a reception in Hanoi on Tuesday for Speaker of the House of Representatives of Australia Tony Smith, who is on a 3-day visit to Vietnam. President Quang underlined the need to enhance people-to-people exchange, and coordination in culture, tourism, and sports.
He asked the Australian Government to continue supporting Vietnam in high-quality human resource development and create favorable conditions for the Vietnamese community living in Australia. Vietnam, in return, will facilitate Australian citizens’ travel, study and investment, he said.
Mr. Smith said Vietnam and Australia have enjoyed sound collaboration in trade, and education and training, adding that the Australian House of Representatives will serve as a bridge to enhance the ties.

Meeting with Prime Minister Nguyen Xuan Phuc the same day, the House Speaker said his country will keep assisting Vietnam’s development process.
Prime Minister Phuc noted that Vietnam is resolved to ratify the Comprehensive and Progressive Agreement for Trans-Pacific Partnership (CPTPP) this year and will work closely with Australia to implement this trade pact.
He called on Australia to continue supporting ASEAN and Vietnam’s viewpoint on the East Sea issue, the full implementation of the Declaration on the Conduct of Parties in the East Sea, and efforts to achieve a Code of Conduct in the region. Mr. Smith affirmed that Australia respects freedom of navigation, a consistent policy the country has advocated anywhere in the world.
