The two leaders agreed to step up cooperation on economic recovery, politics, security, and Mekong-related work.
Among 10 ASEAN members, Australia has established a Comprehensive Strategic Partnership with Singapore and Indonesia. Malaysia, Vietnam, and Thailand currently have a Strategic Partnership with Australia.
Australia's strengthened relations with ASEAN is a highlight of its Foreign Policy White Paper, published in 2017, for a peaceful and stable Indo-Pacific region.
