Australian scholars: China’s National Offshore Oil Corporation’s acts carry political attempt
(VOVworld)- On “The Interpreter” of the Lowy Institute for International Policy in Sydney, there was an article by Julian Snelder who wrote that American politicians were concerned about economic and security threats posed by a Beijing-controlled oil company. The placement of the HD 981 oil rig in Vietnam’s exclusive economic zone shows that there can be no doubt that CNOOC now is acting politically. The articles pointed out accompanied by a flotilla of 80 ships, the HD 981 is being pushed into deployment in a reckless manner that no private commercial operator would undertake. This should be a crucial piece of the Chinese foreign investment debate in Australia, especially in regard of the motives of SOEs.

Earlier, on May 8, the Interpreter ran a commentary by Malcolm Cook, Former Director of the East Asia Program of the Lowy Institute. The article stated that China’s acts ran counter to the spirit and content of the 2002 Declaration on the Conducts of Parties in the East Sea.
