Australia’s ABC highlights Vietnam’s Lunar New Year celebrations
(VOVWORLD) - The Australian Broadcasting Corporation (ABC) has aired a program highlighting the value of Vietnam’s traditional Lunar New Year celebrations as COVID-19 again prevented overseas Vietnamese from returning home for Tet (Vietnam’s Lunar New Year).

For Sydney-based Marianne Bogard, who is of Vietnamese and French origin, the Year of the Tiger marks the third year in a row she has missed out on celebrating Tet with her Vietnamese family in Ho Chi Minh City. Ms. Bogard says Tet is all about spending time with family to reconnect. She said she has longed for the delicious caramelized pork and eggs — her family's signature for Tet — and missed playing cards, gambling at daytime and clubbing with her cousins at night.
Mr. Binh Nguyen drove nearly 300 kilometres from Sydney to Canberra for this year's Vietnamese Embassy's Tet party. He said that it was a wonderful chance to gather with Vietnamese students and communities from all around Australia.
“We gathered with some local and international friends to enjoy the delicacies of my homeland such as banh chung (sticky rice cake stuffed with pork and mung bean), authentic nem (Vietnamese spring rolls) and banh cuon (steamed rice rolls)”, he added.
