France’s AFP News Agency quoted an Azerbaijan Defense Ministry spokesperson as saying that Azerbaijani armed forces have liberated six occupied villages in Fuzuli and Jabrayil district.
Amernia and Azerbaijan, two former Soviet Union republics, are caught in a decades-long conflict over the Nagorno-Karabakh region.
Tensions flared on Sunday morning when fighting broke out between the two forces.
The Russian Foreign Ministry has urged both sides to immediately cease fire and return to the negotiating table.
The French Foreign Ministry said France, Russia, and the US are committed to finding a sustainable solution through negotiation and respect for international law.
European Council President Charles Michel urged all parties to stop fighting.
Pope Francis called on Armenia and Azerbaijan to resolve their conflicts through negotiation, goodwill, and friendship, rather than force.
