(VOVworld) – All nations should join forces for a better and safer future, United Nations Secretary-General Ban Ki-moon said at a press conference Friday in New York, on the occasion of entry-into-force of Paris Climate Agreement.

Ban said this momentous occasion makes history in humankind’s efforts to combat climate change. He said the challenge is to sustain the momentum that has propelled the Agreement into force. He added humans remain in a race against time but with the Paris Agreement and the 2030 Agenda for Sustainable Development, the world has the plans needed to make the shift to a low-emission, climate-resilient path.
The Paris Agreement on climate change signed in Paris last year and legally took effect on November 4, 2016. About 200 nations signed the agreement and are committed to limiting greenhouse gas emissions.
Patricia Espinosa, Executive Secretary of United Nations Framework Convention on Climate Change, said in a statement that November 4 marks a milestone for all nations to work together towards achieving targets in the Paris Climate Agreement.
Nearly 200 nations will gather in Marrakech, Morocco, from November 7 to18, for the 22nd session of the Conference of the Parties (COP 22). They will discuss technology and finance pathways for implementing the Paris Agreement.
