If confirmed by the Senate, Franchetti will serve as the 33rd Chief of Naval Operation, and the first woman to command the service and to become a member of the Joint Chiefs of Staff.

Franchetti, who has served as the vice chief of naval operations since September 2022, was commissioned in 1985 and has served as the commander of US Naval Forces Korea and director for Strategy, Plans, and Policy of the Joint Staff.

She has twice served as an aircraft carrier strike commander.
