The black box that records important flight data could provide clues to why the plane lost altitude and crashed into a hillside in Guangxi Zhuang Autonomous Region.
Mao Yanfeng, director of the accident investigation unit of the Civil Aviation Administration of China, said that at the time of take-off, the weather was favorable and there was no danger.
The cause of the crash has yet to be determined and the investigation is now difficult because the plane is very badly damaged, aviation authorities said.
On Monday, China Eastern Airlines’ Boeing 737 aircraft of flight 5735 departed from Kunming to Guangzhou and lost contact while flying over Wuzhou city in Guangxi province. There were 132 people on board, including 123 passengers and 9 crew members. According to the Guangxi emergency management agency, the crash caused a big fire in the mountains.
