(VOVWORLD) - Meritorious artist and guitarist Van Vuong passed away last Saturday at his home and his funeral was held on Wednesday in 354 Military Hospital’s funeral hall in Hanoi.

The blind artist, whose real name was Van Huu Vuong, was born in 1946 in Hai Duong province. He was loved for his talent and for having overcame his blindness after contracting smallpox when he was 2 years old. He taught himself playing the guitar at the age of 7.
His takes on Beethoven’s For Elise, Schubert’s Serenade, Albert Ketelbey’s In a Persian Market, and Trinh Cong Son’s Diem Xua and Cat Bui have been adored by fans.
Van Vuong had around 8,000 performances across the country, and received the title of Meritorious Artist in 1997 and the “Bui Xuan Phai: For the love of Hanoi” award in 2012 for his contribution to music.
