According to a 2022 annual report on sustainable development in Asia and the world, by the end of last year, 25 Asian countries had made commitments to reduce net emissions to zero (net-zero). Asian governments have adopted a variety of measures including setting up committees and senior leadership groups to oversee the development and implementation of net-zero strategies of countries, identify carbon reduction targets and roadmaps to achieve those targets, and establish a carbon trading system.
The report said several countries have maintained the ability to mobilize global funding for green and sustainable development despite the COVID-19 pandemic. The report added that many businesses in Asia are also active in the fight against climate change, with 440 businesses registered to participate in the Science-Based Targets initiative. Accordingly, these businesses apply a variety of green transition methods, including switching to renewable energy and establishing sustainable governance structures.
