Boeing issues safety measures following Ethiopian Airlines crash

(VOVWORLD) - Boeing said Sunday it is finalizing updates to its software in the Boeing 737 Max 8 plane and is revising its pilot training program.

The Maneuvering Characteristics Augmentation System (MCAS) is an automated safety feature on the 737 Max 8 designed to prevent the plane from entering into a stall, or losing lift.

Flight data from the Ethiopian Airlines disaster a week ago suggested clear similarities with a crash of Indonesia last October. The crash of the planes, both the Boeing 737 Max 8, killed more than 300 people.

The update will help to handle the MCAS mistakes in case of the unlikely event of erroneous data coming from an angle of attack (AOA) sensor.

Pilot training will be supplemented with a video introducing the new updated software.

Boeing is expected to announce the software update and new pilot training program in a week or 10 days.
