Brazil to deploy 85,000 security personnel during 2016 Olympics
(VOVworld) - The Brazilian government announced on Thursday that it will mobilize 85,000 police and military personnel to guarantee security during the 2016 Olympic Games in Rio de Janeiro.

As many as 37,000 army personnel will be mobilized alongside thousands of other police forces to protect Rio de Janeiro and the other cities hosting the events, Brasilia, Belo Horizonte, Salvador, Sao Paulo and Manaus. The Ministry of Defense will spend 170 million USD to buy communications equipment and prevent cyber attacks. The state government of Rio will invest 222 million USD in building a protective infrastructure. The Brazilian Intelligence Agency will also set up a center in the Olympic city dedicated to combating terrorism, where it will receive the help of intelligence agents from numerous countries.
