“The Vietnamese government has already a very good regulation in the form of Prime Minister’s decision on controlling the trade of illegal wildlife products and protecting endangered species and bio diversity in Vietnam. And the important thing is that regulation is implemented effectively. The British government has been working with Vietnam in a number of different ways on this issue. We are working directly with the Vietnamese government and the Ministry of Agriculture and Rural Development to help them prepare to hold a successful conference and to show that Vietnam is committed to tackle the problem”.
Vietnam and the UK are among 46 countries who signed the 2014 London Declaration to protect wildlife, which called for stronger enforcement of laws to eradicate illegal wildlife trade. Following two successful conferences in Britain and Botswana, Vietnam volunteered to host the 3rd International Conference on Illegal Wildlife Trade this November to maintain momentum and enhance cooperation between signatories.
