She’ll meet with Emperor Akihito and have an unofficial discussion with Japanese Prime Minister Shinzo Abe about a UK-Japan free trade agreement after Brexit. According to EU regulations, official discussions about free trade agreements between the UK and other countries can only be held after the UK leaves the bloc. The visit, joined by several British business leaders, aims to showcase the UK’s support for Japanese investors and confidence in bilateral economic ties.
