Cambodia’s major parties agree on NEC reform
(VOVworld) – The ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) and the opposition Cambodia National Rescue Party (CNRP) have agreed on ways to reform the National Election Commission (NEC).
At a recent close meeting, the two parties also discussed preparation for a summit between leaders of the two parties to put an end for the post-election dispute. Speaking to supporters in Kampot province, Sam Rainsy, CNRP President said Cambodia’s current political situation is at crossroad. It can either deteriorate or get better, depending on the result of the upcoming negotiation. He said there are some possibilities for NEC reform under which NEC is an independent institution, the two parties can choose members from their own parties to form NEC and NEC can include either members of the two parties or independent individuals.
