(VOVWORLD) - The ruling Cambodian People’s Party (CPP) won a sweeping victory, while Funcinpec and the Khmer National United Party received the second and third most votes in the general election on July 23, according to preliminary election results announced by the National Election Committee (NEC) on Tuesday.
The ruling CPP received nearly 6.4 million votes, or more than 82% of the 7.7 million valid votes. The royalist Funcinpec party earned 716,500 votes while KNUP 134,300 votes. The NEC reported an 85% voter turnout among the 9.7 million registered voters.
