(VOVWORLD) - Preliminary results, updated by the National Election Committee (NEC) of Cambodia, show that the Cambodian People's Party (CPP), led by Prime Minister Hun Sen, has won a landslide victory in Cambodia’s 7th National Assembly election held on Sunday.

With over 80% of the votes counted, the CPP won 83.2% of the votes, while the royalist party FUNCINPEC won just 8% of the votes.
In Phnom Penh, preliminary results showed that the CPP has won 84% of the votes, securing 11 of the capital’s 12 parliamentary seats. This means that Hun Manet, the CPP’S future PM candidate, ranked first among 12 CPP candidates running for election in Phnom Penh, will almost certainly become a member of the National Assembly next term.
The official election result is will be announced between August 9 and September 4.
