(VOVWORLD) -Can Tho, known as Vietnam’s "Western capital", is one of five cities under the Central Government and located in the heart of the Mekong Delta region with many potentials and advantages that few other places have, Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh said, adding that Can Tho must turn these potentials and advantages into actual results.

At a meeting with Can Tho City’s Party Committee on Sunday as part of his business trip to Can Tho, Prime Minister Chinh urged for flexible, creative management and an effective use all resources for development, while building an administrative system of solidarity, unity, integrity, democracy, for the people to serve.
He asked Can Tho to effectively implement the COVID-19 prevention and control program, including the vaccination strategy and direct the bidding and procurement of drugs, equipment and medical supplies to ensure medical examination and treatment for the people.
The PM also requested the aggressive implementation of the socio-economic recovery and development program.
The Can Tho City Party Committee told the meeting that in the wake of the COVID-19 pandemic, Can Tho’s GRDP (Gross Regional Domestic Product) decreased 2.79% in 2021, but rebounded strongly in the first half of this year to 8.04%, ranking 21st out of 63 localities, higher than the national average of 6.42%.
