(VOVWORLD) -Prime Minister Pham Minh Chinh on Friday emphasized that the construction and development of the Central Highlands region must harmoniously and reasonably combine four pillars: economy, society, environment, and national defense and security.

The PM addressed a conference reviewing the implementation of the Politburo’s Resolution 10 dated January 18, 2002 and Conclusion 12 dated October 24, 2011 on socio-economic development and assurance of national defense and security in the Central Highlands.
He urged for sustainable development, adaptation to climate change, and best promotion of specific advantages of each locality and regional and intra-regional linkages, quick connection with the major economic centers of the country, the Mekong Sub-region and the Vietnam - Laos - Cambodia Development Triangle.
Mr. Chinh said that to develop the Central Highlands quickly, sustainably and harmoniously, people should be considered as the goal, the center, the driving force for development, culture as the foundation, and ensuring national defense and security as vital and regular task.
The PM emphasized that the Central Highlands is a strategic area, which requires self-reliance, innovation, and the spirit of dare to think, dare to do of the Party Committee, government and people of all ethnic groups in the area.
He urged the Central Highlands to develop a green, circular economy rich in national cultural identity, change mindset from agricultural production to agricultural economy, develop modern and synchronous infrastructure, and attractive destination for tourists, preserve ecosystems, ensure water security and political security, improve people's living standards, and safeguard national defense and security.
