(VOVworld) – The Vietnam Red Cross Society has sent emergency relief worth 21,000 USD to flood victims in Thanh Hoa, Nghe An and Ha Tinh province. The relief includes 500 boxes of emergencies supplies, 120,000 Aquatap water purification pills, and cash. The Vietnam Red Cross also sent a monitoring team to evaluate the damage in localities and urged its local branches to actively help the people normalize their lives.

Vietnam’s north central provinces have experienced extensive flooding. In Thanh Hoa province, 9 people have been killed and 2 are still missing. Hundreds of hectares of crops and houses have been inundated with initial losses estimated at over 31 million USD. Deputy Minister of Agriculture and Rural Development, Hoang Van Thang, is on the spot to direct recovery operation. "I’ve urged functional agencies to quickly repair broken dykes using local labor and resources. The Dykes Department is asked to send experts to inspect the dykes and landslides along the Chu and Ma rivers", Thang says.

In Yen Thanh district, one of the most seriously affected areas in Nghe An province, 11 communes remain submerged. Nguyen Sy Hung, Vice Chairman of the Yen Thanh district People’s Committee says: "We are checking and repairing roads. We have mobilized local people help clear land, install signs to ensure traffic safety, and reinforce lakes, dykes, and canals."
