At talks in Hanoi on Friday with Party General Secretary and President of China Xi Jinping, Mr. Hung called on Vietnam and China to strengthen cooperation for mutual benefit, and manage disagreements so as to create a peaceful environment and stability for mutual growth.
Chairman Hung recommended that the two countries organize regular visits and meetings between Party and National Assembly officials to discuss ways to resolve current and future differences.
He said the two legislative bodies should increase cooperation and draw on each other’s experience to improve the quality of legislative performance.
Meanwhile, NA agencies of Vietnam and China and the Vietnam-China Friendship Parliamentary Group were encouraged to step up the exchange of experience in legislative work, monitoring, and policy making for socio-economic growth.
NA Chairman Nguyen Sinh Hung said cooperation has made remarkable progress in recent years but the outcome remains far from the two countries’ potential.
He asked state leaders of both sides to provide stricter guidance to make the cooperation more practical and efficient, especially in economic and trade to improve the two people’s living conditions.
Leaders of both Vietnam and China should attach more importance to resolving maritime issues under the principle of respecting the benefit of each side, in line with international law for the long-term interest of the two Parties and the two peoples.
Chinese leader Xi Jinping said the Chinese Party and government always support the strengthening of exchanges and cooperation between the Chinese National People’s Congress and the Vietnamese National Assembly and between the two peoples - the key component of the Vietnam-China bilateral comprehensive strategic cooperative partnership.
Xi said in the future both should expand the exchange of delegations and information, increase coordination and support for each other in international forums through which to raise mutual understanding, trust, and solidarity, laying a firm foundation for sustainable development.
After the talk, Chinese leader Xi delivered a speech to the Vietnamese National Assembly in which he expressed his belief that under the leadership of the Communist Party of Vietnam, the Vietnamese people will ceaselessly gain new achievements in the national renewal process.
