(VOVWORLD) - China wants the Israel-Hamas conflict to be stopped as soon as possible, said President Xi Jingping on Thursday, adding that Beijing is willing to work with Arab governments for a lasting solution to the conflict.

Mr. Xi made the statement following his meeting with Egyptian Prime Minister Mostafa Madbouly in Beijing. He also said a ceasefire as soon as possible is the current top priority to prevent the conflict from expanding, or spiralling out of control.
The clear way out of the Palestinian-Israeli conflict is to implement a two-state solution, establish an independent state of Palestine, and achieve peaceful coexistence between Palestine and Israel, President Xi said.
China is ready to coordinate with Egypt and other Arab countries to facilitate a comprehensive, just, and lasting solution to the Palestinian issue at the earliest possible opportunity, he added.
This is the first time the Chinese President has spoken publicly about the current Israel-Palestine conflict, nearly two weeks after it erupted. China has sent a special envoy to the Middle East.
