China takes over US consulate premises in Chengdu as ties worsen
(VOVWORLD) - China said it took over the premises of the US consulate in the southwestern city of Chengdu on Monday after ordering shut down of the facility in retaliation for the closure of the Chinese consulate in Houston, Texas.

China’s Ministry of Foreign Affairs said the consulate was closed as of 10 a.m. It said later that authorities entered the building and took over the premises.
At dawn on Monday, the American flag outside the consulate was lowered. Around 200 staff have left the premises over the past 3 days.
