President Xi Jinping said China and Japan should put aside disruptions to put their bilateral ties back on track and solve their maritime disputes in the East China Sea to maintain regional peace and stability.

Prime Minister Shinzo Abe said Japan hoped China would contribute to global economic growth and boost diplomatic relations. The two leaders agreed to accelerate talks on an air and sea communications hotline between their defense ministries to prevent incidents in the East China Sea. Abe said Chinese fleet near Japan’s Senkaku Islands had escalated tensions. He hoped the Japanese and Chinese leaders would hold talks in November on the sidelines of the Asia-Pacific Economic Cooperation summit.
