(VOVworld) - Co To Island in the northern province of Quang Ninh was connected to the national power grid this week.
At a ceremony on Wednesday, National Assembly Vice Chairwoman Tong Thi Phong said the event is important not only to Quang Ninh province, but also to the whole nation, marking a step forward in improving the living conditions of disadvantaged islanders. Madam Phong said she hoped the stable power supply will help the island’s socio-economic development, thus contributing to defending the national sea and islands. She said:
“As part of the country’s protective shield, Quang Ninh should continue to rise as a key province of the northeastern economic region and a bulwark of the national land and sea defense. Quang Ninh will strive to become a comprehensively strong province contributing to the success of the Party’s resolution to turn Vietnam into a strong nation on a par with others around the world.”
The project to connect Co To Island to the national power grid funded by Quang Ninh province and the Northern Electricity Corporation began late last year. The 49 million USD project is the first to have 30 kilometres of cables laid on the seabed at a depth of up to 30 meters.
