During the last debate session of the House of Representatives, 85 senators voted for the new law, while 17 opponents came from the Democratic Center Party led by former President Álvaro Uribe.
President Juan Manuel Santos wrote on his Twitter account that the vote is a historic decision and it is time for the conflict to rest. The Minister of Internal Affairs Fernando Cristo thanked senators and called on Colombians to take part in the referendum on the pending peace agreement, under the new law.
