(VOVworld) - Colombia's President Juan Manuel Santos said Wednesday he wants to enter into a bilateral truce with the Revolutionary Armed Forces of Colombia (FARC) beginning January 1, 2016.

If implemented, the proposal will mark a breakthrough in the negotiation process aimed at gaining a long-lasting peace in Columbia. Santos proposed an internationally monitored ceasefire agreement as part of the 3-year peace talk between Columbia’s government and FARC. FARC implemented a unilateral truce in July and has many times urged the Columbian government to respond with a bilateral truce.
