The Nippon Expressway Company (NEXCO) claimed responsibility for a tunnel collapse on the Sasago expressway immediately after the accident happened yesterday in Yamanashi province. The company has established an investigation committee to determine the cause of the accident. NEXCO admitted that roof supports in the tunnel were degraded. Subsidence has been hampering rescue efforts. Authorities have confirmed 9 bodies burned in the tunnel.
